Monday- Tuesday, April 13-14 – Had driven to Bethany College in West Virginia Sunday afternoon with a Disciples of Christ friend. We heard a Harvard professor speak on prayer, spirituality, and the Song of Songs. I enjoyed interesting discussion with a number of people over a wide theological spectrum.
Wednesday, April 15 – Got the lawn mower going for the first cut of the season, most of which was done by my daughter. I also prepared for and taught my Wednesday night class on Hebrews.
Thursday, April 16 – Spent a good portion of the morning visiting at a nursing home and the afternoon preparing for a Sunday evening sermon.
Friday, April 17 – Spent the morning at another nursing home where the wife of one of our senior members resides. I sat through the husband’s Bible class for residents assisted by another kindly older gentleman. I then accompanied my friend to a senior citizen luncheon where I enjoyed visiting with the grown children of German immigrants of the 1940s. That afternoon involved bulletin edit and printing and sermon preparation. Friday night the family and I attended a pipe organ concert at the Catholic Church (better than it sounds). Pictured is their cool baptistery which really helps one visualize crucifixion with Christ.
Saturday, April 18 - Participated in Record Store Day in Bowling Green, Ohio and came home with limited edition Robert Plant vinyl. Then off to the flea market that afternoon where I bought 31 theological hardcover volumes for five bucks including works by the Niebuhrs, Paul Tillich, Brevard Childs, and others. Met with church friends that evening at Panera for evening meal and fellowship with our missionaries to the French world.
Sunday, April 19 – Guest speaker on Sunday morning gave me a much needed break. I preached that evening on the Shrewd Manager from Luke 16:1-13.
Monday, April 20 – Began the morning renewing driver’s license and plates. Spent considerable time outlining a sermon plan and preparing a bulletin article. My son drove me to a cook out and board meeting at the youth camp that evening.
Tuesday, April 21 – My birthday so I took the day off. Did a lot of organizational work around the house, exercise, reading, and a study of Galatians.
What a variety filled week of different settings, people, and study topics. I love those kind of weeks and the flexibility a life of ministry provides.
